New Zealand Cricket (NZC) came up with an out-of-the-box strategy to announce the 2023 ODI World Cup squad. To make the announcement, the family members of the players were used. In a heartwarming video that has cooked up a storm on social media. The video has also garnered a lot of views on social media.
In the video, the family member announces the name of the particular player along with his role in the side and his Cap number in ODI Cricket. It was a wonderful way for the players to get to know the news as they stepped into yet another World event. New Zealand made it to the 2019 World Cup final but could not get the World Cup on the bearest of margins as England won a cracking encounter on the boundary count.
Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi will be frontline spin options for New Zealand
When it comes to the squad, New Zealand received a shot in the arm as Kane Williamson will make it to the World Cup and will lead the side. The 33-year-old was doubtful for the World Cup as he had a knee injury when he was playing for the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Tim Southee will also be part of the Kiwi squad.
For the Blackcaps they have great batting depth, with a good amount of all-around options. They have variety in the pace department and also experienced spin options in Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi who have done well in the 2016 T20 World Cup in India and also have had a great amount of experience playing in the IPL.
In the 2011 World Cup which was last held in India, New Zealand made it to the semi-finals against Sri Lanka. After the Group Stage New Zealand ended fourth with eight points from six games. The Kiwis also beat South Africa in the quarterfinals. In the Group games, the New Zealanders had a memorable victory against Pakistan in Pallekele where Ross Taylor made 131 against the Men in Green.
Here is New Zealand's squad for ODI World Cup 2023
Kane Williamson (captian), Trent Boult, Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Tom Latham, Daryl Mitchell, Jimmy Neesham, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee, Will Young.

New Zealand hitting it out of the park with their World Cup squad announcement once again. Last time they did it in a primary school in Christchurch with two kids leading the subsequent press conference. Can they make their 3rd consecutive World Cup Final in 2023? https://t.co/g1nxqG6S7b pic.twitter.com/lk1LsM7EB9
