Rilee Rossouw, the South African batter, made a stupendous name for himself as he scored the first-ever century of the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022 in the clash between South Africa and Bangladesh on October 27, Thursday.
For the unversed, the southpaw scored 109 runs off 56 balls and helped South Africa put on a total of 205 runs on the board joining hands with Quinton de Kock who scored a valuable 63. The duo put on a partnership of 168 runs for the second wicket after losing their captain Temba Bavuma in the first over of the match.
Reaching his 100 off just 52 balls, Rossouw managed to score one six from the next 4 balls that he faced before making his way back to the dressing room. Lauding his teammate for the century, de Kock said after the first innings that it was a pleasure to watch him bat that way.
“It was good to watch, knowing Rilee (Rossouw), he's done it for quite a while now. It's good to have him back in our side. He walked in and gave us some impetus, it was a treat to watch,” de Kock said after the first innings.
South Africa make a statement in ongoing 20-20 World cup
The Proteas almost managed to chase down the total against Zimbabwe in the campaign opener played on Monday before the match was called off due to persistent rains. However, during the clash against the Bangla Tigers, Bavuma and his men made a statement with the bat to other teams in the group.
With regard to the first innings, after losing Bavuma early, the Rossouw-de Kock duo put on a mammoth partnership for the second wicket and the wicketkeeper made his way back first after making a valuable contribution to the team. Tristan Stubbs perished for just 7 runs while Rossouw followed him back in quick succession.
Hasan Mahmud, who bowled the final over, conceded only 7 runs and restricted South Africa from causing more damage as the pacer managed to pick the wicket of Aiden Markram as well. Let us take a look at a few fan reactions from Twitter for Rossouw’s century:
