The first of the three-match Test series is underway between India and Bangladesh. India’s stand-in skipper KL Rahul won the toss and decided to bat first. Although the visitors had a horrific start on day 1 of the match as they lost three wickets only on the score of 48 runs. But the brilliant partnership between Shreyas Iyer and Cheteshwar Pujara following a quick cameo of Rishabh Pant rescued the Indian team from a miserable position to a commanding one.
Notably, the Indian team came into the match without having their regular players in playing XI. Regular skipper Rohit Sharma was ruled out of the first Test series due to an injury in his left thumb that he sustained during the second of the three-match ODI series. Apart from that, the star pacers, Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah were also ruled out from Indian management’s plans due to their respective injuries.
After the end of the first day’s play, the fans took to Twitter to hail the pair of Cheteshwar Pujara and Shreyas Iyer for taking India to a commanding position from a struggling one in the first session of the day.
Here’s how fans reacted to the Indian team’s performance on day 1:

On a very similar pitch to Chattogram in Multan (which didn’t kept this low) and vs an inferior spin attack, England were 280 all out. India are at the same score after being 6 down. Bazball works for England, it’s great. But ind don’t need to change their way #BANvIND #PAKvENG

Bangladesh slightly ahead with those two late wickets, India need another 80 runs to be ahead in the game. Probably a case to bowl Axar with the new ball already. #BANvIND

Then the young wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant scored 46 runs off 45 balls and stitched a partnership of 64 runs for the third wicket.
But Rishabh Pant fell prey to Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the 32nd over of the innings and it was the fourth wicket of the Indian team on the first day of the series opener. It was also the time when the pair of Pujara and Iyer took the charge and added a brilliant partnership of 149 runs for the fourth wicket. Although, team India lost their fifth wicket in the form of Pujara (90 runs) as day 1 was nearing its end.
At the end of the day’s play, Axar Patel was accompanying Shreyas Iyer. Iyer ended up scoring an unbeaten 82 runs but Axar Patel ended up getting out on the last ball of the day off Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Eventually India ended on the score of 278 runs for the loss of six wickets.
