Trent Rockets and Welsh Fire locked horns in the 29th match of the Hundred competition. Welsh Fire’s skipper Josh Cobb won the toss and elected to field first at the Nottingham. Batting first, the Rockets posted a total of 172 runs for the loss of four wickets in the allotted 100 balls.

While chasing the target, Welsh Fire fell short and could score 143 runs for the loss of 143 wickets. The Rockets won the match by 29 runs. Notably, it was the eighth consecutive defeat for the Fire in the competition. The cricket fans came up with divided opinions after the miserable performance from the Welsh Fire.

Dawid Malan played a match-defining knock for the Rockets

Speaking of the match, then the opening pair of Dawid Malan and Alex Hales provided a strong start for the Rockets. They both a made partnership of 89 runs for the first wicket. Malan played a brilliant knock of 58 runs off 38 balls with three boundaries and three sixes to his name. Alex Hales also contributed with an individual inning of 38 runs off 29 balls with four boundaries and a six. Later on, Daniel Sams and Colin Munro also played the knocks of 31 and 22 runs respectively.

On the backs of these fine knocks, Rockets managed to post a total of 172 runs for the loss of four wickets in the total of 100 balls. Four bowlers of Fire scalped one wicket each except Ish Sodhi.

While chasing the target, Welsh Fire couldn’t get a good start as their opener Joe Clarke and Tom Banton could add only 11 runs for the first wicket. Then onwards, Matt Critchley was the only batter who seemed to be struggling. He played a knock of 55 runs off 35 balls with five boundaries and two sixes in his account.

Eventually, they couldn’t cross the line and scored only 143 runs for the loss of six wickets in the allotted 100 balls. Fire lost this match by 29 runs and registered another defeat in the tournament.

Dawid Malan won the award of player for the match for his match-defining knock of 58 runs.
