India under the captaincy of stand-in skipper Hardik Pandya took on Sri Lanka in the second of the three-match T20I series at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. The hosts’ skipper Hardik Pandya won the flip of the coin and asked the visitors to bat first at the MCA stadium in Pune.
Batting first, the Islanders managed to post a big total of 206 runs for the loss of six wickets, thanks to the captaincy knock from Dasun Shanak following the half-century from the opener and wicketkeeper-batter Kusal Mendis.
While chasing the target, the Indian team could score only 190 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs and lost the match by 16 runs.
The fans were also excited and thrilled following this interesting fixture between the men in blue and Dasun Shanaka's men. They took to Twitter to react to the defeat of the Indian team and subsequently, lavished praises on the batting heroics of Axar Patel and Suryakumar Yadav.
Here's how fans reacted:

Appreciation tweet for Sri Lanka! They lost the first T20I by only 2 runs and fought till the final ball, they lost the toss in Pune and had to bat first, they posted 200+ on the board and defended it at a venue where most teams like to chase. Phenomenal display 👏 #INDvSL

Speaking of the match, the Sri Lankan team got a strong foundation of 80 runs for the first wicket between Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendia. The former fell prey to Axar Patel in the ninth over of the first innings with an individual score of 33 runs. Whereas, Mendis scored 52 runs off 31 runs with three boundaries and four sixes to his name.
Mendis’ half-century was followed by the 37-run knock by Charith Asalanka and a brilliant responsible knock of 56 runs by skipper Dasun Shanka himself off just 22 balls with two boundaries and six massive sixes on his credit.
The star pacer Umran Malik scalped three wickets in his spell of four overs. Other than him, Yuzvendra Chahal and Axar Patel also scalped one and two wickets respectively.
While chasing the target, the Indian team crumbled when they lost five wickets only on the score of 57 runs in 9.1 overs. But then came an amazing 91-run stand for the sixth wicket between star Indian all-rounder Axar Patel and World number one T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav igniting some light on the dead hopes of the Indian camp. Suryakumar Yadav missed a chance and got caught by Wanindu Hasaranga in Dilshan Madhushanka's over. The 32-year-old scored 51 runs with three boundaries and the same number of sixes on his credit.
Eventually, the Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka took the charge himself in the last over and restricted the hosts to the score of 190 runs for the loss of eight wickets to win the match for Sri Lanka.
The visitors' skipper also won the 'player of the match award for his outstanding all-round performance against India in an all-important second T20I for the Sri Lankan team.
