The 15th edition of the Indian T20 league is all set to start on March 26. With all the hype around the tournament, several analysts and journalists have already started to predict the playing XIs for all ten teams. Several shows have seen a few experts trying to decipher the best possible XI for every team.
In order to do that, one must have complete knowledge about all the players, and their backgrounds. However, a recent brain-fade moment during a show resulted in veteran journalists getting severely trolled on social media. A recent panel discussion saw some senior journalists make a huge error with respect to Sheldon Jackson.
The keeper-batter has been an absolute champion in the domestic circuit and has played for teams like the Railways and Saurashtra. He has scored 5947 runs at an average of 50.39 in 79 matches. This includes 19 hundreds as well. When it comes to the biggest T20 league in the world, Jackson has been representing Kolkata and was purchased by them during the mega auction as well.
While the panel members were discussing the ideal playing XI for the Kolkata-based franchise, one of them mistook Jackson to be an overseas player. This panel member was considering him to be a foreign player. This led to him, as well as the show getting trolled.
Some Twitter users made fun of the members for making such a silly error, and on the other hand, others criticized the show for not being aware of the background of such a big Indian domestic cricketer. This led to a panel member apologising on Twitter as well. He also mentioned that he was well aware of Jackson's achievements in Indian cricket.
"Nowhere during this clip or during the entire show did I ever mention #SheldonJackson as a foreign player. My bad I didn’t realise when he got called an overseas entrant. Pls go through the entire show because I am very well aware of Sheldon’s achievements for Indian cricket. 🙏" read his Tweet. In the meanwhile, Kolkata are all set to face Chennai in the tournament opener on Saturday. It will be interesting to see if Jackson does indeed get a chance to feature in the XI for the two-time champions.
