Indians played against Sri Lanka in their second match of the super-4 stage of the Asia Cup 2022. Eventually, things didn’t fall in place for the men in blue as they lost the match by six wickets to the Lankan tigers. Batting first, Rohit Sharma & co posted a total of 173 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka chased it down in the last over of the match with one ball and six wickets. Now, Indian hopes are very low to reach the final of the tournament. In this match against Sri Lanka, skipper Rohit Sharma and star batter Suryakumar Yadav were the only two batters who scored some fine knocks. Indian batting and bowling failed to restrict Sri Lanka in a must-win encounter for them.

Talking about the match, then the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma played a very good knock of 72 runs off 41 runs with five boundaries and four sixes to his name. Other than him, Suryakumar Yadav scored 34 runs off 29 balls. With the help of these few knocks, India scored 173 runs losing eight wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Dilshan Madhushanka ended up as the highest wicket-taker for Sri Lanka with three scalps on his credit.

While chasing the target, the opening pair of Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis provided a very strong start to the Sri Lankan team. They both made a partnership of 97 runs for the first wicket in 11.1 overs. Nissanka and Mendis scored individual half-centuries with scores of 52 and 57 respectively.

Apart from these, the finishing knock of 33 runs off just 18 balls from the skipper Dasun Shanaka helped Sri Lanka to chase down the target in 19.5 overs with six wickets and one ball to spare.
