On March 27, India faced South Africa in the last league game of the ongoing Women's World Cup. The Indian team needed to win the game to qualify for the semis. They had played six games before the game, winning three, and losing as many games. A win for India would have ensured a semi-final berth for them, while a loss would have pushed West Indies into the semis.
Recently, the cricket's governing body shared a video that showed shown various emotions of the commentators, fans, and the teams. The video is off the final moments of the India vs South Africa game where the latter needed three runs off two balls. Mignon du Preez and Shabnam Ismail were on the crease and Deepti Sharma was bowling the last over of the game.
Du Preez lofted the ball towards the long-off region in order to finish the game with a six. However, she didn't time the ball well and was caught by Harmanpreet Kaur. The Indian fans started celebrating sensing the possible win. Meanwhile, the third umpires started checking the no-ball as per the usual protocols. This created tension among the commentators and fans.
The official found out that the bowler had overstepped which meant the Women in Green and Gold got the extra run and the batter was safe. In the meantime, Ismail and Du Preez had crossed which meant that the former was on strike for the free hit. Ismail took a sharp single and allowed her partner to score the winning runs.
