The 60th match of the Indian T20 League 2022 saw Punjab beat Bangalore by 54 runs. It was a clinical performance from the Mayank Agarwal-led side. With this victory, they continue to remain in the race to the playoffs. This was Punjab's sixth win of this edition.
During the first innings of the game, Jonny Bairstow and Liam Livingstone showed no mercy on Bangalore's bowlers as they ensured that the Punjab-based franchise get to a mammoth total of 209. As for the second innings, Bangalore lost Virat Kohli rather early during their chase. The 33-year-old was only able to score 20 runs off 14 balls.
It is to be noted that Kohli has been having a torrid time in the 15th edition of the league. He has scored 236 runs in 13 games so far in the 2022 edition. This includes three ducks as well. To make matters worse, luck doesn't just seem to favour the Indian batter as he was dismissed in one of the most unfortunate ways on Friday.
During the second ball of the fourth over, Kohli attempted to play the one-legged pull. However, the bat missed the ball. After being given not out, Punjab reviewed the decision. Upon reviewing, the replays showed that the ball brushed his gloves before falling into the hands of Rahul Chahar, who was fielding at short fine leg. Thus, Kohli couldn't believe his luck.
After being dismissed, he looked up to the heavens in disbelief. He was visibly frustrated. While looking towards the sky, he made a gesture which seemed as if he was questioning his luck. Thus, the video of him doing the same instantly went viral. Fans sympathized with Kohli as well.
He was apparently murmuring a few words, and was absolutely disappointed. Thus, Bangalore could only score 155, and fell short of their target by 54 runs. During the post-match presentation, their skipper Du Plessis spoke about Kohli's poor form.
"Kohli is seeing the lighter side of it, every single way that you can possibly get out, is happening to him. That's how the game works. All you can do is to keep trying hard, work hard and stay positive. He played some good shots tonight, obviously would want him to carry on. Bad patches happen to all of us, he's taken it in the right note," said Faf du Plessis.
