India's stand-in skipper for the three-match ODI series against the West Indies Shikhar Dhawan was superb during the first game. In the preceding series, he couldn't score too many runs as he would have liked. In the first ODI of the ongoing series, he was batting well as he hit 10 fours and three sixes on his way to 97 runs.

He was looking like getting to his 18th ODI hundred. The left-hander has two against the Maroon Brigade. He might have got another hundred but was stopped by the brilliance from Shamarh Brooks at backward point. Gudakesh Moti-Kanhai was bowling the 34th over of India's innings when Dhawan tried to play on the up towards point.

The ball hit the top half of the bat and looked like going over the fielders inside the circle. However, Brooks had other ideas as he took a diving catch leaping upwards. The official broadcaster of the series uploaded the video on Twitter.

Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer stitched crucial partnerships with Dhawan. With Gill, the Delhi player formed a partnership of 116 while with Iyer, he stitched 94 runs for the team. However, the team couldn't take advantage of their start as they were restricted to 308/7. The bowlers, however, responded well in the nail-biting game.

The likes of Mohammed Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Shardul Thakur took two wickets each which proved crucial in the end. Prasidh Krishna conceded 62 runs in his full quota of overs. West Indies scored 305/6 in the end and were looking like chasing down the target. However, the brilliance of Siraj with the ball and Sanju Samson with the keeping gloves ensured the Men In Blue's victory.

The next game will be played at the same venue (Queen's Park Oval) on July 24. The visitors will be looking to pile on the misery of the hosts who lost the home series against Bangladesh recently.
