The 56th match of the Indian T20 league 2022 saw Kolkata beat Mumbai by 52 runs. It was a comprehensive effort from the Shreyas Iyer-led side as this victory has ensured that they are still in the race to make it to the playoffs. Kolkata's pacers were exceptional in particular.
Earlier during the first innings, Mumbai had restricted the Kolkata-based franchise to 165-9. Jasprit Bumrah was sensational as he took his maiden fifer in the Indian T20 league. However, the five-time champions didn't really have a great start to their chase. The first over of the second innings saw their skipper Rohit Sharma being dismissed for just two.
It is to be noted that it was a controversial decision. During the final delivery of the first over, Tim Southee bowled a short of length delivery. The ball flew off Sharma's thigh pad, and Jackson did well to catch the ball. After the umpire gave it not out, Kolkata reviewed it as the keeper-batter was convinced that the ball made contact with the bat.
In a surprising turn of events, the ultra edge showed a spik. It was confusing as there was a lot of disturbance even before the ball reached the bat. However, the third umpire asked the onfield umpire to reverse the decision to out. Not only the fans, but Sharma himself was frustrated with the same. He was clearly unhappy with the fact that he had to return to the pavilion. Even the commentators were shocked by this controversial decision.

Nevertheless, Sharma reluctantly had to walk back. After which, Mumbai were bundled for 113. During the post-match presentation, the Mumbai skipper was disappointed with the batting performance of his side. He drew light on how they didn't have any massive partnerships.
"I would take that total on that pitch. Was a great effort from the bowling unit, Bumrah was special. Disappointed with the way we batted. Poor from the batters. Not really (difficulty of batting on this pitch). We are playing our fourth game here and we know what to expect here. We know seam bowlers will get some help from the pitch. We didn't get partnerships and you need partnerships chasing a total like that," said Rohit Sharma.
