Kolkata ended their losing streak as they recently beat Rajasthan by seven wickets. With this win, they continue to remain in the race for the playoffs of the Indian T20 league 2022. As for their game against the Sanju Samson-led side, it was Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh who ensured that the Kolkata-based franchise ended up on the winning side.
They put together a 66-run partnership, and saw their side though. Singh was superb in particular as he made full use of the opportunity given to him. The youngster scored an unbeaten 42 from just 23 balls. His wonderful performance enabled him to win the player of the match award as well. After the completion of the game, the Kolkata-based franchise took to Twitter to post a video that featured him.
In the video, Singh can be seen speaking to Rana. The 24-year-old revealed that he had written ’50’ on his hand a day before Kolkata's game against Rajasthan. Singh stated that he felt like he was going to score runs, and win the player of the match award as well. He said that he was waiting to win the player of the match award for the Shreyas Iyer-led side.
"From the morning I felt I'll be the 'Player of the Match' today. So I wrote down 50 runs on my hand (as a goal to fulfil for the game)," said Rinku Singh in the video. In another video posted by the official Twitter handle of the Indian T20 league, Singh even showed the "50" which he wrote on his palm.

It is to be noted that the Aligarh-born batter has been representing Kolkata for five years. However, he hasn't got too many opportunities to showcase his talent. Nevertheless, he was absolutely thrilled after winning the player of the match award on Monday.
"A lot of players have played Ranji from Aligarh, but I am the first to play the ITL. This is a big league and there is a lot of pressure obviously. I have been waiting for the last five years to get a chance. I worked very hard, came back from injury and did well in the domestic circuit as well. When I was batting, Bhaiyya (Rana) and Baz (McCullum) told me to stay till the end and finish it," said Rinku Singh during the post-match presentation.
