WATCH: MS Dhoni talks about his experience of playing in Chennai

MS Dhoni appeared in an interview recently. The former Indian captain was asked about his favorite stadium. Dhoni talked about his experience of playing in Chennai.

MS Dhoni played a lot of cricket in MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai. In the past, Dhoni had expressed his gratitude for the fans in Chennai who have wholeheartedly supported him in India and in the IPL. MS Dhoni's IPL team, Chennai Super Kings, had its base in Chennai. Likewise, India played a lot at the venue in international cricket during Dhoni's period.

Recently, the former Indian captain attended an interview. One of the questions asked was to name the favourite cricket stadium in which he played in his career. Dhoni was happy to reply that Chepauk (MA Chidambaram stadium) was his favourite stadium to play in. "It is very difficult to pick. But I have played the most in Chepauk," said Dhoni as he received huge cheers from the people gathered in the hall. 

Dhoni further continued and said that since the 2008 IPL, he has been playing in Chennai in a lot of games. Dhoni also pointed out that CSK could not play a lot in Chennai as a home team due to various reasons. It is interesting to note that CSK did not play in 2009, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2020, and 2021in Chennai due to many reasons.

In 2009, the season was played completely in South Africa due to general elections. In 2014 and 2015, Chepauk could not host matches due to political imbalance in Chennai. In 2016 and 2017, CSK was banned from the IPL. In 2018, only one match was played at the venue. During political tensions, Ranchi and Pune acted as hosts for CSK. 

In 2020 and 2021, the IPL was played in the UAE due to the pandemic. In 2022, the IPL was played in only 5 stadiums. Two of them were outside of Mumbai- Ahmedabad and Pune. Other matches were played in DY Patil Stadium, Wankhede Stadium, and Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Despite not playing a lot in Chennai as a home team, Dhoni picked Chennai as his favourite stadium to have played in.
