Australia and South Africa are facing off in the third Test that kicked off on January 4, Wednesday and it was the mighty Australians who batted first after winning the toss on Day 1, only to put on 147 runs on the board at the end of the day that was interrupted due to bad light. To add more, the talismanic batter Marnus Labuschagne’s wicket saw the end of the day as umpires called it off due to bad light, with the play not resuming for the rest of the day.

The right-handed batter scored 79 runs during his stay and eventually hit the headlines, not for his batting but for his act that left the spectators puzzled. To add more, during his stay in the crease, Labuschagne gestured towards the dressing room as though he wanted a cigarette, leaving thousands in surprise.

But later, fans got to know that he asked for a lighter to repair his helmet and to get things sorter. The hilarious moment went viral on the internet and many were surprised and fooled as they were unsure of what he was asking for until his bench mates brought out the lighter.

Australia’s rampage stopped midway as bad light stops play

The Proteas got off to a good start by removing the southpaw David Warner for just 10 runs early in the innings. However, there was a 135-run stand between Usman Khawaja and Labuschagne, with the former remaining unbeaten at 54 at the end of the day’s play. Anrich Nortje the Proteas pacer, stood up yet again for his team with a thundering two-for.

Steve Waugh, the former Australian cricketer, opened up on the bad light and said that Cricket Australia (CA) must find a way to stop these unwanted stoppages when the floodlights are available and could be used. Further, Waugh highlighted the fans who left the stadium halfway and claimed that the Australian board cannot keep them unsatisfied for long.

“Test cricket needs to realise there is a lot of competition out there and not using the lights when the players are off for bad light simply doesn't add up. Lots of unhappy spectators who can't understand the rationale and reason for no play,” Waugh was quoted as saying after Stumps on Day 1.
