Australia increased their lead in the current Ashes 2023 after winning the second Test at Lord's by 43 runs. The second Test was less complicated than the first, which Pat Cummins and his squad won after a hard battle on the final day. Following the victory, they now lead the five-Test series 2-0. Even though there were a few heated moments in the second Test, Jonny Bairstow's peculiar stumped dismissal garnered the most attention. The home crowd jeered the Australian squad as they entered and left the playing field for breaks.
Speaking of the dismissal, Bairstow walked carelessly out of the crease towards his partner Stokes after dodging Cameron Green's extremely short delivery, believing the ball was dead. However, Alex Carey made the most unlikely of dismissals when he under-armed the ball to take out the bails. Bairstow was completely baffled as the English fans directed their constant jeers and boos at the Australian players.
Ben Stokes called out the ‘Spirit of the Game’ while discussing the dismissal after the game
However, now a video has emerged of Jonny Bairstow himself trying to catch Marnus Labuschagne out of his crease two days ahead of his peculiar dismissal. The incident occurred when Labuschagne left England pacer James Anderson's broader line delivery in the 31st over of Australia's second innings. Despite the fact that the batter was inside the crease, Jonny Bairstow quickly attempted to throw at the stumps but failed.

"My thoughts around it is, when is it justified that umpires have called 'over'? Does the square-leg umpire making some movement justify that? Jonny Bairstow was in his crease and then came out to have a chat in the middle. I’m not disputing if it was out, it was. If the shoe was on the other foot, I would've had to think about the whole spirit of the game. But it has happened, it was out. We have to move on… Do I want to win in that manner? No," said England skipper Ben Stokes after the game.
