The first session of the ongoing Test match between England and India swung like a pendulum. After being asked to bat first, the visitors started well with Shubman Gill scoring 17 off just 24 balls including four fours. However, his innings ended abruptly as he played a loose shot towards slips and got out. The right-hander tried to push the wide delivery without much intent which led to his downfall.
Cheteshwar Pujara, who is opening the innings was given out caught behind facing Stuart Broad. However, the former challenged the on-field decision and was given not out after the replays suggested that the ball had brushed the thigh pads. The right-hander couldn't make the best out of the reprieve. After a few overs, James Anderson took him out with a peach of a delivery.
Anderson challenged the outside edge of the 34-year-old. The former vice-captain had no answer to the delivery which bounced more than expected. The ball hit the shoulder of the bat and went straight to Zak Crawley at slips. The veteran pacer has taken two wickets fallen in the innings so far.

Zak, on the other hand, made up for the dropped chance of Hanuma Vihari, which he let go a few overs ago. In the meanwhile, Vihari was dismissed for 20 in the second session of the first day. It is to be noted that the game was interrupted with only 20 minutes left in the Lunch break. The break was taken a bit early after the intensity of the rain increased.
Play would have resumed earlier if not for the standing water on the outfield which stayed for a considerable time. The next four days of the game will see an early start with 98 overs to be bowled per day. For India, Jasprit Bumrah is leading the team for the first time in his career. Thus, he would want to win his first game as skipper, and beat England in the fifth rescheduled Test.
