The first day of the super-12 round of the 20-20 World Cup 2022 witnessed an amazing masterclass from New Zealand as they completely outplayed the Aussie to win the first match of the tournament. Kane Williamson & co. posted a total of 200 runs for the loss of three wickets in the allotted 20 overs. While chasing the target, the hosts got all-out only on the score of 111 runs in 17.1 overs.
Apart from the result of the match, Glenn Philips of New Zealand went on to hit the headlines with his amazing display of fielding. Philips took a stunner in the ninth over of the Australian innings. It happened on the second ball of the over when Mitchell Santner was in action against Stoinis.
Stoinis lofted the ball in the air and the 25-year-old Kiwi fielder made no mistake to take a clean and stunning catch with an amazing dive onto the ground. The video of this excellent catch has also gone viral and it is also being termed as the ‘best catch of the tournament.

Furthermore, talking about the match, the opening pair Finn Allen and Devon Conway provided a good start of 56 runs for the first wicket. Wicketkeeper-opener Devon Conway played a brilliant knock of 92 runs off just 58 balls with seven boundaries and two sixes to his name. Finn Allen also contributed with a swashbuckling knock of 42 runs off just 16 balls with five boundaries and three maximums on his credit. On the back of these knocks, New Zealand posted a massive total of 200 runs for the loss of three wickets in 20 overs.
While defending the target, the Kiwi bowlers completely outmuscled the Aussie batting lineup by bundling them up only on the score of 111 runs in 17.1 overs. Senior pacer Tim Southee and spinner Mitchell Santner scalped three wickets each. Whereas Trent Boult also took two wickets alongside one-each scalp by Lockie Ferguson and Ish Sodhi.
Eventually, New Zealand started their campaign with a win in the 20-20 World Cup 2022 with an emphatic win of 89 runs.
