There’ve been instances in cricket ball went on to hit the stumps but the bails couldn’t go off the stumps. Although, it is a very rare scene, be it international cricket or the franchise leagues and domestic tournaments. But the match of the Women’s Big Bash League between Melbourne Stars and Perth Scorchers witnessed something very rare that is not very common on the cricket field.
Piepa Cleary of Perth was batting and Melbourne’s Annabel Sutherland was in the attack for bowling. Sutherland was bowling the 16th over of the innings. She went on to deliver a no-ball on the fourth delivery of the over which let her deliver the ball again to Cleary.
It was a free hit for Cleary and it went on to hit the stumps bails were also lightened up but eventually, in a rare scene, the ball made its way straightway toward the boundary for four runs. The video of this incident has gone viral over social media just within minutes of being shared by a Twitter user.

Speaking of the match, Perth’s skipper Sophie Devine won the toss and asked Melbourne to bat first. Tess Flintoff played a brilliant knock of 40 runs off 29 balls with two sixes and a six to her name. Other than her, Annabel Sutherland also played a 31-run knock for Melbourne. On the back of these knocks, MS-W managed to post a total of 110 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
While chasing the target, wicketkeeper-opener Beth Mooney played a knock of 35 runs having five boundaries to her name. Crucial knocks of 21 and 15 run respectively from Amy Edgar and Piepa Cleary helped Perth to cross the line in 19.4 overs and win the match by a close margin of two wickets.
