Former Indian all-rounder Suresh Raina has been felicitated with an honourary Doctorate degree by the VELS Institute of Science and Technology and Advanced Studies. Raina is undoubtedly one of the most celebrated Indian cricketers. He had contributed in a lot of crucial matches for India a couple of occasions.
The 35-year-old was there in the 12th Annual Convocation Ceremony of this Chennai-based University. They acknowledged the former cricketer’s excellence as he played for a long time with the Chennai franchise of the Indian T20 League.

The Muradnagar-based lad earned the title of Mr. IPL for his consistency in the Indian T20 League. Notably, Raina has played 205 IPL games so far and has scored 5,528 runs in his career during the league. He is playing only for Chennai except for two seasons of 2016 and 2017 when he was in the role of captain for the new franchise Gujarat.
He is still the highest run scorer for Chennai in the history of the league so far. The Chennai fans have given him the name ‘Chinna Thala. The southpaw has also won the Champions League T20 and International Champions Trophy for the national side of India.

The chief guest of the event, Tamil Nadu's honorable governor RN Ravi felicitated Raina. Vice-chancellor of VELS University, Dr. Ishari K Ganesh was also there in the ceremony to glitter the event. Professor Ajit Kumar Mohanty, Director of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre alongside Film Director S Shankar was also there at the ceremony.
Raina also expressed himself on the occasion, he talked about the feeling of receiving the honor from the university.
"Receiving this honorary doctorate is a very big moment for me, not only because I am here at this outstanding institution but also due to the love the people of Chennai have shown to me over the years. This city is like home for me and there's nothing that compares with the connection I have with the fans over here,” World Cup winner batter was quoted as saying during his address.
