MS Dhoni is famous and so is his number 7 jersey. The 42-year-old from Ranchi has done wonders in international and franchise cricket by donning this number on his back. Notably, the Indian Cricket Board retired the No. 7 jersey in December last year as a tribute to the former Indian captain's contribution to the sport.
Under Dhoni's leadership, India enjoyed tremendous success across formats, especially in limited-overs cricket. He was handed the captaincy baton in 2007 ahead of the inaugural T20 World Cup and stunned everyone by leading the team to glory. His heroics did not end there as he won India's second ODI World Cup title in 2011 and added another international trophy to the cabinet by winning the Champions Trophy in 2013.
It was during Dhoni's tenure India topped the Test rankings for the first time. Having led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to a record 10 Indian Premier League (IPL) finals and winning five of them, the wicketkeeper batter is one of the most successful captains in the history of the tournament. Remember, his captaincy prowess is only a decoration to his glorious journey as a finisher batter.
Dhoni's sense of humour leaves everyone in splits
Dhoni is currently gearing up for the 2024 IPL, perhaps his last dance in the cash-rich league. Despite being away from cricket action, 'Captain Cool' has always been trending on social media for various reasons. Apart from his heroics on the field, Dhoni's sense of humour is also a reason to attract his fans.
Another example of this was seen in a recent event where the legendary cricketer explained his choice of number 7 as his jersey number. "Why was 7 important to you? Was this the time that your parent wanted you to come home by?" the anchor asked Dhoni.
"No. That is the time or day my parents decided I will come on earth. I was born on the 7th Of July. So July again the seventh month. 81 was the year so 8-1 is 7. So it was very easy for me to just go out there when they ask me 'what number do you want'," the former India skipper replied leaving everyone in splits.
