The discussions from the Pakistan dressing room have been one of the major headlines in the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022. The social media team of the men in green has done a commendable job throughout the tournament by providing some behind-the-scenes stuff from the dressing room of the national team.
Following Babar Azam’s encouraging speech after the loss against India, head coach Matthew Hayden’s inspirational remarks after the team’s qualification in the semi-finals have gone viral among the fans. Subsequently, both videos have been shared a lot from n number of social media handles.
But it seems that all this stuff hasn’t gone down well with the former legendary Pakistan pacer Wasim Akram who expressed his angst over the recent viral video in which skipper Babar Azam can be seen in a talk with the young 21-year-old batter Mohammad Harris.
I have not seen any other team do it in this World Cup - Wasim Akram
"If I was Babar, I would get hold of that guy who is making a video. Sometimes, certain things are personal. I am all for social media, players interacting with their fans, and everything. But I have not seen any other team do it in this World Cup. So yeah, the urge to get extra numbers (followers, likes), cut it down. This is too much," said Akram in a show on A Sports.
"There are recordings taking place all the time. Imagine if I am sitting and not knowing that someone is recording - a message that I want to give my team. Just tell him, 'Guys, relax for two days. Do it some other place but not the dressing room,” he added later.
Later on, Akram also talked about the recent viral video of Pakistan's dressing room that surfaced on the internet following the win of men in green against Bangladesh in a virtual quarter-final on Sunday. In the video, Babar is advising young batter Mohammad Harris about finishing the game for his team while batting there in the middle.
"Haris, you have played brilliantly. But these small things will give you confidence, for example, when you finish a game, your level will be different. When the match is in hands, make sure you don't lose a wicket. Our seniors told me that when you finish a match, your confidence level goes up, wherever you play," said Babar to Mohammad Harris in the video.
Responding to this, another former Pakistani legend and Wasim Akram’s fellow teammate Waqar Younis said,
"I 100 percent agree with you. Whatever happens inside the dressing room, should stay there. This is a problem not just now but earlier as well when they shared a lot of information on social media - people used to scream, argue, and fight. And now you yourself are recording and showing it to the world.”
