Former Indian skipper and senior batter Virat Kohli is enduring a poor run of form with the bat in all formats of the game. He is struggling for his 71st international century since the last one he scored against West Indies in November 2019. He also failed on the recently-concluded tour of England.
Currently, the management has decided to give him rest from the entire white-ball tour of the West Indies. So, he is in now Paris during his break from international cricket. He is there with his family including his wife Anushka Sharma and daughter Tamika. The right-hander is expected to join the squad for the Asia Cup 2022 which might be played in UAE next month.
Hopefully, the break allows him to rejuvenate mentally and get his form back – BCCI selector on Virat Kohli
Sources have also learned that the selectors might call up Virat Kohli for the Zimbabwe tour. India will play this series of the commencement of the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup. They have cited his poor form as the reason for calling him back early in the team. India is scheduled to play the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe under the leadership of senior batter Shikhar Dhawan.
One of the Indian selectors talked about Kohli’s comeback to the team and hinted at the various aspects.
“Hopefully, the break allows him to rejuvenate mentally and get his form back. But without any competitive cricket, it will be difficult and that is why we want him to play against Zimbabwe. It’s his preferred format and will help him regain his form before the Asia Cup. We will take a final decision close to the selection,” he was quoted as saying to the InsideSport.
Speaking of Kohli’s recent outings, then he could score only 11 and 20 runs in both the innings of the rescheduled last Test match against England. Later on, he also failed in the T20I series and scored only 1 and 11 runs in the second and third T20I respectively. Whereas the 33-year-old could register minimal scores of only 16 and 17 in the second and third ODI of the three-match ODI series.
