Virat Kohli is one of the finest batters India has ever produced. During the ODI World Cup 2023, he broke an array of batting records including Sachin Tendulkar’s record for most ODI hundreds (49). He shares a great admiration for the ‘Little Master’ and has made it official that Sachin is his favourite cricketer in the world.
In a recent interview with the One8 Commune, Virat made it official in a YouTube video. He said, “Sachin Tendulkar is my favourite cricketer in the world. He’ll always be at the top for me.” The statement comes with no surprises as the Delhi boy has often been seen sharing his admiration very vocally. He was also spotted numerous times knee-deep in conversation with Sachin during IPL faceoffs between their franchises.
During the ODI World Cup, Kohli also paid a rich tribute to Sachin Tendulkar after breaking his record of the most centuries in ODIs. He said, "To equal my hero's record, it's quite special for me. I grew up watching him bat and he's perfection when it comes to batting. I will never be as good as him. He is always going to be my hero whatever happens."
Brian Lara on Virat Kohli’s possibility to break Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 100 international centuries
Legendary West Indies batter Brian Lara recently spoke comparing the two India batting greats. He said that Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 100 international centuries is nearly unbreakable. Although Virat Kohli is the closest possible candidate to reach the milestone, the road ought to be steep.
"How old is Kohli now? 35, right? He has 80 but still needs 20. If he scores five centuries every year, he would need four more years to equal Tendulkar. Kohli will be 39 then. Tough job, very tough job," Lara told ABP.
"I can't say with certainty, no one can. Those saying Kohli will break Tendulkar's 100-centuries record won't be taking cricketing logic into account. 20 centuries seem a long way away. Most cricketers can't score that in their entire career. I won't be adventurous and say Kohli will do it. Age doesn't stop for anyone," he added.
