The 16th edition of the Indian T20 League awaits fans as it will begin on 31 March 2023. Gujarat won the last edition and now, they will lock horns with the Chennai franchise in the tournament opener in Ahmedabad. An enthralling battle awaits between Hardik Pandya and MS Dhoni on the opening day.

Prior to the match, an opening ceremony will also take place as both captains will be present also. However, on 30 March, an image has now gone viral where all captains of franchises were seen with the Indian T20 League trophy for a photoshoot. However, seeing that image, fans went crazy as it seemed that the Mumbai skipper, Rohit Sharma was not present.

Rohit Sharma had a forgettable last season as the skipper of the Mumbai franchise. They finished at the rock bottom of the table with just four wins out of 14 games. Hence, fans are hoping for a better season from the team this time around. However, they have already dealt with some major blows as both Jasprit Bumrah and Jhye Richardson will miss the tournament due to injuries. 

Regarding that, while talking in a pre-season conference, Rohit said: "Losing Bumrah has been a big loss for us, I'll be honest with that. But by losing a player sometimes you get opportunity. The way Mumbai have selected their squads over the last few years has been…how you select your playing XI and then your back-up XI and then you invest in a couple of youngsters for the future. It's now time for those youngsters to show up and basically get the opportunities.”

"For me, the big thing about this season for our bowling line-up is we have got experience, but we've got one or two little spaces for couple of the juniors to come through and showcase their skills. I'm looking forward to seeing them. The Indian T20 League is a massive event and it's going to be a great opportunity for some of our young boys to really show up,” Rohit Sharma concluded.
