Jhye Richardson had a fantastic Big Bash League for Perth Scorchers until he suffered a hamstring injury on 4 January 2023. Initially, it was a minor injury and the Aussies pacer was expected to get back for the Big Bash final. But, he failed to get recover in time. However, Australia selected him for the upcoming three-match ODI series in India.
But, now reports from EspnCricinfo have come out that Jhye Richardson is going to miss the ODI series and also the upcoming Indian T20 League for Mumbai. After missing the Indian pacer, Jasprit Bumrah due to an injury, it will be another huge setback for Rohit Sharma and his men. On 4 March, Richardson made a comeback to competitive cricket in Perth.
Jhye Richardson last played for Australia in June 2022
He was playing for his club side Fremantle against Wanneroo in a 50-over fixture. But, Richardson managed to bowl only four overs. He took three wickets for five runs before leaving the field. Jhye Richardson straight went for a scan and then, visited the WACA ground to consult with the WA medical staff. However, Nathan Ellis is going to replace Richardson in the squad for the ODI series against the Men in Blue. In the recently concluded BBL, this pacer grabbed 15 wickets in seven games for the eventual champions, Perth Scorchers.
He last played for Australia in June 2022. So, it will be a major setback for the pacer also after missing the upcoming ODI series. Mumbai also need to look for a replacement now as their pace attack has become an issue for the next season. Speaking about Jhye Richardson’s international career so far, he has played 36 matches across all three formats. In those matches, he grabbed 57 wickets.
