Australia and South Africa are facing off in the third Test of the three-match series that kicked off on January 4, Wednesday, and on Day 4, Saturday, Pat Cummins made a surprise declaration in a hope to make a move in the Test match when the Baggy Greens were reeling at 475/4. While many appreciated the declaration, a few of his fans claimed that he could have waited for Usman Khawaja’s century.
The southpaw, remained at 195 when the umpires called it off due to rain on Friday and many hoped to witness his double century given that the Australians have already won the first two Tests. It remains to be seen if the decision would pay off for the team, given that only 6 sessions are left in the game.
Steve Smith, the right-handed batter, outclassed as he joined hands with the southpaw and scored his 30th Test hundred, surpassing Sir Don Bradman (29). One has to agree that the Test match might not witness a result given that the conditions are cloudy for the rest of the week in Sydney.
I think it would be pretty harsh if he (Cummins) bowled straight away: Usman Khawaja
South Africa were reeling at 71/3 at Tea on Day 4, with fans claiming that it would be difficult to ask for both teams to fight for a win, the likes of Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon and Cummins picking 1 wicket apiece against the Proteas batters. Khawaja, at Stumps on Friday, said that it would be harsh from Cummins if he declared it right away and it did happen, much to the dolefulness of the southpaw.
“I think it would be pretty harsh if he (Cummins) bowled straight away, I don't think that's going to happen. We could go out there and get a few more runs really quickly (tomorrow), or we could declare pretty much straight away. It's obviously a decision he'll have to make tomorrow, decide on what the weather's doing and how he wants to play out this game,” Khawaja was quoted as saying.
Here’s how fans have reacted to Pat Cummins’ declaration denying Usman Khawaja of his double century:
