Star Indian batter, KL Rahul is one of the modern-day stars in Indian cricket. The batter has steadily risen through the ranks and has become a mainstay in the Indian cricket team across all three formats. The 30-year-old was even announced as the vice-captain of the team after Virat Kohli stepped down from captaincy.
Despite having many remarkable achievements in his career, there’s one thing that always holds back Rahul from utilizing his full potential on the field. The batter ends up missing out on matches as he finds himself injured more often than not.
Rahul couldn’t take part in the recent T20I series against South Africa and the tour of England due to a groin injury. He was all set to return to action in the upcoming T20I series against West Indies but the opener’s participation in the series has become doubtful as he has tested positive for Covid-19.
The Indian vice-captain was undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy after his successful surgery in Germany. He was all set to make a comeback to the team in the coming days but has once again found himself in danger of missing out from another series. As per reports, the Indian batter has tested positive for Covid-19 and, thus, is likely to be miss out from the upcoming T20I series against West Indies.
The Indian Cricket Board president Sourav Ganguly also confirmed the news after the Apex Council Meeting in Mumbai on Thursday.
The national selection committee included KL Rahul in the squad on the condition of him clearing the fitness Test. The Lucknow franchise captain was supposed to take the fitness test in the next couple of days but now everything will have to be rescheduled.
The five-match series against the West Indies is set to begin on 29th June and KL Rahul is in a race against time. Things are looking gloomy for him at the moment.
The fans who were eagerly waiting for the Indian batter to make a comeback were once again shattered seeing the news of him returning Covid-19 positive. The opening batter hasn’t played any competitive cricket after the Indian T20 League.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to the news of KL Rahul being Covid-19 positive:-
