With South Africa winning the first two ODIs, the third game is a dead rubber. However, this allows India to test their players who have been warming the bench so far in the series. Besides, they need to work on their flaws.

However, in a shocking turn of events, India still didn't give Ruturaj Gaikwad a chance to feature in the XI. He will have to return home without playing a single game on the tour. The fans found it absurd that KL Rahul made four changes, but still couldn't give him a chance in the third ODI.
The move to leave out Gaikwad didn't sit well with the fans as they slammed the management for not giving Gaikwad a chance. Skipper KL Rahul was at the receiving end of the fans who called him "selfish".
Gaikwad has been in superb form of late. He was scoring runs for fun in the recently concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy as well. Nevertheless, the Asian side decided to drop Shreyas Iyer, Venkatesh Iyer, Ravichandran Ashwin and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and replace them with Suryakumar Yadav, Jayant Yadav, Prasidh Krishna and Deepak Chahar. Meanwhile, India have won the toss and opted to bowl. South Africa are 70-3 at the time of writing.
