Both franchises kept on bidding till the prices went up to 2 crores. Kolkata opted out of the bid and was replaced by Punjab. Punjab and Chennai kept on bidding and in this process, threatened to break the record of the most expensive uncapped player. K Gowtham holds the record, bought by Chennai last year for 9.25 crores.

However, this record remained intact as Khan was bought by his old team for 9 crores. Last year, he played 11 games and amassed 153 runs, batting as a finisher and striking at 134.2. In late last year, the right-hander played an important role in his state team's Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy win with a last-ball six.

In domestic T20s, he has played 50 games and has amassed 547 runs, striking at 136.40. Meanwhile, netizens had a mixed reactions to this buy. Some believe that he is a good buy while others believe the price tag can create pressure on him. Others question how the 2014 finalist will utilize his skills.
