Looking at the way Chennai have gone about their tactics during the ongoing mega auction, it is evident that their attempt was to get most of the players who played for them in the previous edition back. Thus, they went on to buy back Dwayne Bravo, Robin Uthappa and Ambati Rayudu. They tried their best to get Josh Hazlewood as well.
Thus, they engaged in a bidding war to get Deepak Chahar as well, and were successful in doing so. When the bowling all-rounder's name popped up, several teams went after him. After keeping a base price of INR 2 crore for himself, Chahar saw Chennai, Delhi and Hyderabad bid for him.
In the end, Chennai ended up purchasing him for a whopping amount of INR 14 crore. It is to be noted that he has been representing the yellow army since 2018, and has been their key player for quite a while now. Thus, it wasn't shocking to see the Dhoni-led side buy him back.
The bowling all-rounder played an instrumental role in Chennai's title-winning campaign in 2018 and 2021. In the 63 games in which he has played in the biggest T20 league in the world, the pacer has picked 59 wickets at an economy rate of 7.8. This includes two four-fers as well.
Moreover, his current form has been absolutely superb. After scoring a brilliant half-century in the third ODI against South Africa, he was sensational with the bat against West Indies on Friday as well. Thus, he has emerged as a complete all-rounder in the recent past.
In his T20I career so far, Chahar has picked 23 wickets in 17 games. His bowling average and strike rate are 21.57 and 15.96 respectively. This includes a six-fer as well.

Deepak Chahar plied his trade at CSK at 80 Lakh for 4 years straight. Universe balancing it out for him here as he is going overpriced. Well deserved.
