The much-anticipated clash between India and Pakistan took place in Pallekele, Sri Lanka on 2 September in the ongoing Asia Cup. But, after India’s innings, the match got called off due to heavy rain and as a result, both teams were awarded one point each. But, fans were left disappointed as they had been looking forward to this heavyweight clash for a long time.
But, regarding the same, the former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman, Najam Sethi came up with a tweet and slammed the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) for conducting the tournament in Sri Lanka instead of UAE. This time, the tournament is being played over a hybrid model.
Here is the shared tweet:
How disappointing! Rain mars the greatest contest in cricket. But this was forecast. As PCB Chair, I urged the ACC to play in UAE but poor excuses were made to accommodate Sri Lanka. Too hot in Dubai, they said. But it was as hot when the Asia Cup was played there last time in…

9 matches of this ongoing Asia Cup are going to be played in Sri Lanka
India were adamant that due to political barrier, they would not travel to Pakistan for the tournament. Hence, then, Najam Sethi-led PCB came up with this hybrid model and as per that, four matches are being played in Pakistan while the other nine matches are being played in Sri Lanka. India are scheduled to play all of their matches in Sri Lanka. PCB approached UAE as the first choice as a neutral venue. But, ACC opted for Sri Lanka and it got approved.
Speaking of the tweet, Sethi wrote: “How disappointing! Rain mars the greatest contest in cricket. But this was forecast. As PCB Chair, I urged the ACC to play in UAE but poor excuses were made to accommodate Sri Lanka. Too hot in Dubai, they said. But it was as hot when the Asia Cup was played there last time in Sep 2022 or when IPL was played there in April 2014 and Sep 2020. Politics over sport. Unforgivable!” Now, India are scheduled to play Nepal on 4 September in Sri Lanka. But, that match is also under threat of rain and most likely to get interrupted hugely.

Chacha, they played T20 format. 50 over format in Dubai’s heat … given the starting would have been like 1:30pm. Almost impossible.
