The upcoming ODI World Cup is all set to begin in October in India and all eyes will be on Rohit Sharma whether he will be able to lead the team to glory. But, as an individual batter, Rohit has been in great form this year across all three formats. In 16 matches, he has scored 923 runs at an average of 48.57.

Former Team India cricketer, Aakash Chopra has already claimed that Rohit will score two centuries and a daddy hundred during the World Cup. Now, another former Team India international, Virender Sehwag opened up while speaking to the Apex Council of Cricket and shared his expectations regarding Rohit Sharma for the mega event. 

“I think if I want to pick one, I think Rohit Sharma.” - Virender Sehwag

Sehwag said that the openers will score a lot of runs for Team India in the World Cup and picked Rohit Sharma to shine. He also said the skipper’s energy level and performance will go up ahead of the mega event. He said: "I think lots of openers because India has a good wicket, so openers will get more opportunities. I think if I want to pick one, I think Rohit Sharma. There are a couple of names, but I know I'm Indian and I should pick Indian, so Rohit Sharma."

"I'll pick Rohit Sharma, because when World Cups comes, his energy level, his performance goes up. So I'm sure that and this time he's a captain also. So I'm sure that he will make a difference and he will get a lot of runs," Sehwag concluded. Rohit Sharma has played two ODI World Cups so far in 2015 and 2019 respectively. In the last edition of the tournament, Rohit scored 648 runs from 9 matches at an average of 81. He also smashed five centuries but the Men in Blue got knocked out of the tournament after getting defeated by New Zealand in the semi-final.
