India and Australia are currently clashing against each other in the first Test of the four-match Test series at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. Australia, who are the no.1 ranked Test team in the world, opted to bat first after winning the toss. Fans expected a strong start from the visitors but surprisingly that didn't happen as they were wrapped up by the Indian bowlers on the score of just 177 runs.
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma came to open the innings with newly married KL Rahul. However. Rahul continued his poor form and departed after scoring only 20 runs. But Rohit batted brilliantly and smashed a brilliant half-century before the end of the first day. Coming in to bat on the second day Rohit converted his half-century into a brilliant ton.
He completed his century by facing 171 balls, which included 14 fours and 2 sixes. The 36-year-old batter also achieved a special feat as he became the first Indian player, who has scored a century in all three formats as a captain. Before him, no Indian captain has been able to do this feat. Even former captains Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virat Kohli have not been able to do the same.
Rohit achieved a special milestone
If we talk about Rohit Sharma's Test career before this match, he has scored 3209 runs while playing a total of 46 Test matches. During this, he has scored 8 centuries. At the same time, by scoring a century in the second day's play, he scored the 9th century of his Test career. Rohit has also scored a double-century in the longest format.
Talking about the match, earlier, Australia opted to bat first after winning the toss and managed to score only 177 runs in the first innings. No Australian batter could even score a fifty on the Nagpur pitch. Marnus Labuschagne was the highest scorer for the Kangaroos with 49 runs. Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin took no time to clear up the tailenders. Meanwhile, India were on 226 runs after losing 5 wickets till the end of the 2nd session on Day 2. But the skipper departed just after the Tea break on the score of 120 runs.
