IPL has seen a lot of records being made and broken since its inception in 2008. Chris Gayle’s 175 not out still stands as the best score by a batter in the history of the league. While Alzarri Joseph’s 6/12 for Mumbai Indians is still the best bowling figure.
These aforementioned records have stood the test of time and have been difficult to break. Then there are a few records that many players and fans do not wish to remember. In its 16 years, the league has also seen some unwanted records being created. Royal Challengers Bangalore’s 49 all-out is still the lowest-ever team total.
In this article, we take a look at the batters who have been dismissed for a duck on most occasions in IPL history. Few names mentioned in the list have had stellar international careers yet find themselves in this unfortunate list.
Five players who were dismissed for duck:
5. Rashid Khan – Afghanistan
The wily spinner Afghanistan has bamboozled many batters in the IPL. Rashid Khan has played 109 games and batted in 52 innings since his IPL debut in 2017. Out of the 52 times he has batted, Rashid Khan has been out for a duck on 14 occasions. That though cannot hide the fact that he is a dangerous customer with the bat. His innings of 79 not out against Mumbai Indians is still one of the best knocks of his career.
4. Mandeep Singh – India
At one point Mandeep Singh was considered the next big talent in Indian cricket. The 31-year-old though has failed to perform and live up to the tag. Mandeep Singh has played a total of 111 IPL games and recorded 15 ducks from the 98 innings that he has batted. After yet another underwhelming season in 2023, Mandeep Singh was released by his team.
3. Sunil Narine – West Indies
The former Caribbean spin wizard is a bonafide legend in the IPL. Sunil Narine has helped Kolkata Knight Riders win the title twice with the bat and ball. During Gautam Gambhir’s tenure as the skipper of the side, Narine was asked to open on several occasions. The 35-year-old has played 162 and batted in 96 innings and recorded ducks on 15 occasions.
2. Rohit Sharma – India
Mumbai Indians pin-up boy Rohit Sharma has always taken the world by storm with his blazing blade. The 36- year-old though has also recorded 16 ducks in IPL history from the 238 innings he has played.
1. Dinesh Karthik – India
With over 242 games in the IPL Dinesh Karthik is third on the list of most matches played in the history of IPL. The 38-year-old has batted on 221 occasions and scored 17 ducks which is the most by a batter in IPL history.
