In the World of Cricket, fans have enjoyed many batters all around the globe over the years in the ODI format. But, there are very few players who have managed to score more than 10,000 runs in the 50-over format in their career. Those players have come up with top performances for their respective teams with consistency for a considerable time.

Here are the top five fastest batters to reach 10,000 runs in ODI Cricket

Ricky Ponting (AUS, 266 innings)

This former Aussie skipper is in the fifth spot as he crossed the 10,000-run mark in ODIs in 2007. It was the 22nd match of the 2007 ODI World Cup that took place in Basseterre against South Africa. Eventually, they won that World Cup too. 

Ponting scored 91 runs off 91 balls in that match and Australia won that game by 83 runs. However, Matthew Hayden won the Player of the Match award. Ricky Ponting finished his 345-match ODI career with 13704 runs, including 82 fifties and 30 centuries.  

Sourav Ganguly (IND, 263 innings)

This former Southpaw batter is in the fourth spot as he reached 10,000 runs in the 50-over format in 263 innings. It was the fourth match of the 2005 Indian Oil Cup that took place in Dambulla against Sri Lanka. 

Sourav Ganguly scored 51 runs off 110 balls in that match but India lost the game by four wickets with two overs to spare. Ganguly played 311 ODIs and in 300 innings, he scored 11363 runs, including 72 fifties and 22 centuries. 

Sachin Tendulkar (IND, 259 innings)

The Little Master is in the third spot as Sachin Tendulkar crossed the 10,000-run mark in ODIs in 2001. It was the third ODI against Australia in Indore as India batted first and set a 300-run target for the Aussies. But, India won that game by 118 runs.

Sachin won the Player of the Match award for scoring 139 runs off 125 balls. He ultimately finished his career with 463 ODIs and in 452 innings, he scored 18426 runs, including 96 fifties and 49 centuries. Till now, he is the highest run-scorer in the history of the 50-over format.   

Rohit Sharma (IND, 241 innings)

The current Team India skipper became the second-fastest batter to reach the 10,000-run mark in ODIs on 12 September 2023. It was a ‘Super 4’ clash of the Asia Cup that took place at the Premadasa Stadium, Colombo against Sri Lanka.

Rohit was 22 runs short before the match and with a six, he reached the milestone. Rohit scored 53 runs off 48 balls in that game as India got bundled out for just 213 runs in 49.1 overs. Till now, Rohit has scored 10031 runs in 248 ODIs, including 51 fifties and 30 centuries.

Virat Kohli (IND, 205 innings)

This modern great or chase master tops the chart as Virat Kohli reached this milestone in just 205 innings. It was the second ODI of the home series against West Indies in Visakhapatnam. India batted first and scored 321 runs for six wickets in 50 overs. 

In reply, the Windies also scored 321 runs and the match ended as a tie. Kohli won the Player of the Match award for scoring 157* runs off 129 balls. As of now, Kohli has scored 13027 runs in 268 innings, including 65 fifties and 47 centuries.
