The Indian Cricket Board announced India's squad for the upcoming white-ball series against Sri Lanka on Tuesday. India's skipper, Rohit Sharma has been rested for the T20Is but will be making his comeback in the T20I series. Senior batters, namely KL Rahul and Virat Kohli have both been given a break from the T20I series, although it has been learnt that they didn't ask for one.

Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja, who have out for quite some time due to respective injuries, have been training full throttle but the selectors have opted to rest them for this series. Hardik Pandya has been given the leadership duties in the T20I series, while Rohit Sharma will return to lead the side in the ODIs. Interestingly, Hardik Pandya has also been appointed as the vice-captain in the ODIs and not KL Rahul.
Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav has been appointed as the vice-captain in the T20I series. In the absence of senior batters, the likes of Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad could be given more chances in the T20 series.
Besides, middle-order batters such as Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer are also not in the squad for the T20I series. Rishabh Pant hasn't been in good form in the shortest format for quite some time. There had been calls for his exclusion from the T20I series.
The selectors, perhaps, have taken that route and given Sanju Samson a chance to show his mettle. Another major development has been exclusion from Shikhar Dhawan from the ODI series. The veteran batter led India's ODI side for the most part of 2022.
However, his personal form with the bat didn't inspire a lot of confidence. The selector, thus, decided to drop him for the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka. It could, perhaps, be the end of the road for Dhawan.
