Ahead of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League, Sunrisers Hyderabad's Director of Cricket, Tom Moody opined on the players brought by the franchise during the IPL 2021 auctions. The Orange Army raised a lot of eyebrows when they acquired the services of Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman for INR 1.5 crores.
SRH is already equipped with two spinners in the form of Mohammed Nabi and Rashid Khan. Speaking about the inclusion of the young spinner, Tom Moody reckoned that the presence of Rahman provides depth to the team and will keep the opposition on their toes. In addition to his bowling, Mujeeb is also a very handy batsman.
“From the overseas perspective, having Mujeeb there(in the side). He is obviously a very very effective T20 bowler and he has shown that throughout his franchise career and obviously playing for Afghanistan. I think he gives us greater depth and certainly, he is going to keep everyone on their toes to you know try and keep their spot in the eleven,” explained Moody as quoted by Sportskeeda.
Apart from Mujeeb, SRH also picked players like Kedar Jadhav and all-rounder J Suchith during the auctions. Speaking about Hyderabad’s overall picks, Tom Moody reckoned that he played smart at auction and was successful in bringing the experience to his side. SRH was one of the least active teams in the auctions as they backed their squad from IPL 2020.
“We obviously didn’t have to do a lot during the auction. But what we did do I thought was pretty smart. Buying we brought a lot of experience,” said Moody.
