Tom Banton has been included in England’s squad for the final ODI against Sri Lanka after Dawid Malan pulled out of the series due to personal reasons. Banton has reaped benefits for impressive outings in the ongoing T20 Blast. The destructive opener blasted a 47 ball century for Somerset. Since Banton has joined the England squad, he will thus miss Somerset’s upcoming fixtures against Gloucestershire and Middlesex.

Banton, who has played six ODIs and nine T20Is for England, last donned the national jersey against Ireland in Southampton in August 2020. England are 1-0 up in the ODI series and will look to take an unassailable lead in the series on Thursday in London. If England can pull off a win in the next game, they might try out Banton for the final game. They are set to take on Pakistan post the Sri Lanka series and Banton could be a valuable addition to their team as Jos Buttler continue to recover from their injuries.
Meanwhile, their opponent Sri Lanka have been completely outplayed on the tour. After getting thrashed in the T20I series, they were annihilated in the first ODI by 5 wickets.
England squad for the third ODI against Sri Lanka:
Eoin Morgan (C), Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow (WK), Sam Billings (WK), Tom Curran, Sam Curran, Liam Dawson, George Garton, Liam Livingstone, Tom Banton, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jason Roy, David Willey, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood
