Tim Paine sexting scandal: New twist in story as victim agrees to resolve matter through mediation

A scandal involving Australia's former skipper Tim Paine, which happened a few months ago, managed to shock the entire cricketing fraternity.

A scandal involving Australia's former skipper Tim Paine, which happened a few months ago, managed to shock the entire cricketing fraternity. It was revealed that he was involved in a series of messages which were sent to a woman named Renne Ferguson. However, in a shocking turn of events, the woman has decided to settle the matter privately.

It is also to be noted that she has decided to settle it outside the court. While Ferguson had received several vulgar and offensive messages from the keeper-batter in 2017, the matter came out in 2021. However, during a hearing, the women’s lawyer Greg Barnes SC stated that the matter can be settled privately and it is possible of having mediation.

In the meanwhile, Bruce McTaggart, who happens to be the SC for CA, said that his client has stated that there is no purpose behind this plan of action. Moreover, he did not agree with the woman's request for extending the application.

“It is a particularly weak case on the merits, a very extensive delay of three years and prejudice caused to Cricket Tasmania in that the employees named have moved on,” Mr McTaggart told the court as quoted by foxsports.com.

In the meanwhile, Mr McTaggart after a brief pause added that his client agrees to mediation under a few conditions. The people who were allegedly involved in this incident included Paine, his brother-in-law, and cricketer Shannon Tubb do not have documents detailing their allegations as provided to the media

“We’re both f****d if this got out,” said the woman earlier. Thus, due to the sexting drama, Paine decided to step down as Australia's Test captain in November 2021. Pat Cummins was then announced as Australia's new skipper in the longest format of the game.
