On 31 August 2023, the second game of the ongoing Asia Cup took place in Pallekele between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Both teams were looking for a winning start. However. Both teams suffered many setbacks before the start of the tournament as many star players got ruled out. Speaking of the match, Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and opted to bat first.

For Bangladesh, Tanzid Hasan was given a debut cap and he came out to open the innings with Mohammad Naim. But, it was a forgettable debut for the young star as he managed a two-ball duck. Naim also got out for 16 runs off 23 balls. Things went worse as Sri Lanka lost three wickets for 36 runs.

After that, Najmul Hossain Shanto and Towrid Hridoy put up a 59-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Hridoy scored 20 runs and after that, the Bangla Tigers suffered another batting collapse and finally, they got bundled out for 164 runs in 42.4 overs. Shanto scored 89 runs off 122 balls, including seven fours. Apart from him, only two batters managed to cross the double-digit mark. Matheesha Pathirana was the star of the show as he picked up four wickets for 32 runs. Along with him, Maheesh Theekshana took two wickets while Dhananjaya de Silva, Dunith Wellalage, and Dasun Shanaka grabbed one wicket each.

In reply, the Lankans were in a spot of bother also after losing three wickets for 43 runs. But, after that, Sadeera Samarawickrama and Charith Asalanka put up a partnership of 78 runs for the fourth wicket. Samarawickrama scored 54 runs off 77 balls and Asalanka also smashed a fifty. Finally, Asalanka remained not out on 62* runs off 92 balls as Sri Lanka chased down the target in 39 overs with five wickets in hand. Now, Dasun Shanaka and his men will be in action again on 5 September against Afghanistan in Gadaffi Stadium, Pakistan.
