'Thumped' - Twitter thrilled as Southern Brave thrash Welsh Fire in the Hundred 2022 season opener

Southern Brave thumped Welsh Fire to win the opening match of The Hundred 2022. James Vince remained unbeaten on 71.

The Hundred 2022 kicked off yesterday. Defending champions Southern Brave locked horns with Welsh Fire in the first match. Southern Brave captain James Vince won the toss and elected to field first. The decision to bowl first was vindicated by Craig Overton.

The bowler picked up Joe Clarke’s scalp on the fourth ball of the innings. Michael Hogan got rid of Tom Banton in the 20th ball. Overton fired up again to dismiss Ollie Pope for just 10 runs. After facing 40 balls, Welsh Fire was 41/3. And the batting never kept going. Brave’s bowlers were breathing fire in the first innings. Jake Lintott picked up Sam Hain’s wicket in the 42nd ball of the innings. Ben Duckett managed to play some decent innings to power Welsh Fire to 76/5 after 70 balls.

James Vince played the captaincy knock for Southern Brave

At the end of the innings, Welsh Fire managed to score 107/7. Southern Brave batters were on fire right from the start of the innings. James Vince came out with an aggressive intent and carried the same throughout the innings. After facing 25 balls, Southern Brave was 42 without losing a wicket.

Jake Ball got Alex Davies’ scalp in the 49th ball. Southern Brave never lost a wicket after that. It was all an easy cruise for James Vince and Marcus Stoinis. James Vince reached his fifty with a boundary on the 55th ball of the Brave’s innings. Southern Brave chased down the target off just 69 balls. They won the match by 9 wickets with thirty-one balls to spare.

In what was a dominating game by Southern Brave, Welsh Fire’s Ben Duckett has provided some hope to carry on from this loss. They will look to bounce back and make a move somehow. Meanwhile, Southern Brave came in as defending champions and they justified it with a dominating win.
