In the fourth game of the ongoing Lanka Premier League 2023, Jaffna Kings and Dambulla Aura locked horns. This was also the first game of the doubleheader on Tuesday, unlike the Indian Premier League where doubleheaders only take place on weekends. Meanwhile, in this game, the Kings won the toss and elected to bat first. After all, the R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo was hosting its fourth game.
The defending champions had a poor start as they lost the wicket of Rahmanullah Gurbaz early. At 20/1, the likes of Towhid Hridoy (24) and Charitha Asalanka put together 55 runs for the second wicket. However, after the fall of Hridoy in 11.3 overs, this started a procession of wickets. Even though Asalanka got 56 off 52 balls, the others couldn't do much and the team was restricted to 129/7.
For the Aura's Binura Fernando took two wickets while Shahnawaz Dahani, Hayden Kerr, Dhananjaya de Silva, and Noor Ahmed took one each.

In reply, Sri Lanka internationals and Dambulla players, Avishka Fernando and Kusal Mendis put together 76 runs in just eight overs. On the first ball of the ninth over, the former got out after getting 52 off 32 balls including six fours and three sixes. In the next over, Mendis (29) lost his wicket to former U19 player, Dunith Wellalage.
After this, the likes of Sadeera Samarawickrama and Kusal Perera took the team over the line. Even though the former could only score 12 off 22 balls, Perera smashed 34 off 22 balls. With this win, have improved their NRR from zero to (0.862). On the other hand, Jaffna's NRR is currently (-0.267). However, the team can recover from this as they are only 19-run victory away from getting a positive NRR. The lowest NRR of a team is (-1.350) of B-Love Kandy as they lost to 19 runs against Colombo Stars. Meanwhile, Aura is on the top of the table due to their superior NRR.

KJP looks fluent, easing into his groove which is a welcome sign. The short armed jab, pulling Madushanka into midwicket stands with effortless ease turned back the clock to his prime. Little but significant wins in the build up to CWC23. #CricketTwitter#LPL2023 pic.twitter.com/ssoUO6xi5g
