The three-match ODI series between England and India ended with the visitors winning it by 2-1. The Men In Blue started well with a thumping victory in the first game at The Oval. In the next game, the hosts came back with a 100-run win. After this, the series was alive and the winner was to be decided after the third game.
Rohit Sharma's men won the game and managed to win their first ODI series in the UK after 2014. Eight years, India won the ODI series in the European nation under MS Dhoni. Meanwhile, during the series, the away team had some issues with some of its players not performing. In this listicle, we will discuss three players who didn't perform during the series.
Three Indian players who didn't perform during the ODI series
-
Shikhar Dhawan
The left-handed opening batter didn't perform according to the expectations. For a player who is considered to be one of the best ODI players in the current era, he only managed to get 41 runs in three games at an average of 20.50. With the kind of record he has in England (1142 runs in 22 games @ 60.10), the veteran player performed poorly.
One might reason that he didn't play any cricket leading up to the series. His last competitive game was in the Indian T20 League 2022. Since then, he was at home and joined the team before the tour.
2. Virat Kohli
The former skipper missed the first game due to a groin injury. In the second and third game, he managed 17 runs each. With the kind of standards he has set, this can be counted as one of the worst performances. After the second game, the right-hander was under scrutiny.
Skipper Rohit Sharma defended him in the press conference and stated that there is no discussion on Kohli's quality. Notably, during both games, the Delhi player's mode of dismissals were pretty much the same, caught behind playing the ball going outside the off-stump.
3. Prasidh Krishna
The right-arm pacer played all the game and picked only two wickets at 63.50. In the first game, he played a supporting role to the likes of Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah, as the duo cleaned up the English batting line-up.
Krishna was expensive in the second game as he gave away 53 runs in eight overs. He improved his economy in the last game but failed to pick a single wicket.
