Playing in a World Cup can be a dream for any player and every single cricketer aims to play in the tournament at least once in their career. However, not everyone who plays for their country gets an opportunity to represent the nation in the mega tournament.
India, in specific, has produced numerous players who made a mark in the international arena. However, we decided to handpick three players who played in the warm-up games of the World Cup and failed to make it to the main matches of the mighty tournament.
Here are the three players:
1) Ambati Rayudu
For the unversed, Ambati Rayudu was a part of the main squad in the 2015 50-over World Cup. The player, who made it to the squad on the back of his stellar performances that year, failed to get featured in all of the main matches that India played.
In the warm-up game against Australia, Rayudu scored 53 runs off 42 balls and impressed the spectators. However, things did not go well for the star batter post the warm-up as he failed to make it to the playing XI in main matches.
2) Pawan Negi
Pawan Negi, the allrounder, was a part of the Indian squad in the 2016 20-20 World Cup played in India. Albeit Negi got an opportunity in the warm-up match, the player failed to feature in the main rounds. The left-hand batter got an opportunity to play against West Indies and South Africa in the pre-tournament matches.
With the ball, Negi also picked up a two-for against West Indies and the star was left out of the playing XI for the rest of the games in the tournament. Since then, Negi has been out of the radar and his international return looks impossible at the moment.
3) Stuart Binny
Stuart Binny, the allrounder with the best ODI figures (6/4) for India, represented the nation in the 2015 50-over World Cup warm-up matches. The right-hand batter, whose international career was short-lived, played the practice clash against Australia and finished with a spell of 1/41.
However, post the match, Binny did not get an opportunity to represent the country in main matches and returned to India disappointed. Many opined that the board should have brought in another player for Binny as they felt that the allrounder did not do well at that time.
