Defending champions Chennai wouldn’t be too happy with how they have started their campaign in the Indian T20 league 2022. The absence of fast bowlers such as Deepak Chahar, Adam Milne and Chris Jordan have badly hurt them.
The bowling unit is certainly their weakest link at the moment. Chennai were bundled for a below-par total in the first game, but put in an improved show in the last match against Lucknow. They posted a mammoth score of 210 runs on the board. However, despite that, they couldn’t defend the score. As a result of that, Chennai have now lost both the games they have played so far in the tournament.
Ravindra Jadeja and Co. are slated to play against Punjab in their next match on Sunday. In this article, we take a look at three changes Chennai need to do to win against Punjab.
- Adding Maheesh Theekshana to the playing XI
There is no denying the fact that Punjab have one of the most destructive batting line-ups. If they get going, no total is big for them to chase it down, and they showed that against Bangalore. Therefore, Chennai needs to add a mystery spinner like Maheesh Theekshana to the playing XI. He is someone who could be handy both in the powerplay as well as in the middle overs. CSK have great depth in the batting line-up and, thus, they can play with one less batter.
- Replacing Mukesh Choudhary with KM Asif
The left-arm seamer, Mukesh Choudhary made his debut in the last game against Lucknow. He had a poor outing with the ball, conceding 39 runs in 3.3 over. Choudhary bowled a lot of bad balls and didn’t look a lot threatening. Heading into the next game, he could be replaced with KM Asif in the playing XI. He has previously played three matches for Chennai and picked four wickets at 23.2.
- Playing Rajvardhan Hangrekar in place of Ambati Rayudu
Chennai are a bit weak as far as their bowling is concerned. Chris Jordan and Adam Milne are unlikely to play the next game due to different reasons, and thus, it would be better for them to add more options with the ball. Young all-rounder, Rajvardhan Hangrekar not only can hit the ball far and long, but is also pretty handy with the ball. His presence could add more balance to the team.
