Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has made a dashing return to the Test side in the ongoing third Test of Ashes 2023. He replaced Cameron Green who didn't look in great touch with the bat although he did decently with the ball. Meanwhile, in the ongoing game, England won the toss and elected to bowl first once again.
The decision was proven right as they took four wickets for 85 runs. At this point, the likes of Travis Head and Marsh put together 155 runs for the fifth wicket with the latter doing most of the scoring. Notably, both players had their fair share of luck as England dropped a few catches. However, Marsh made his rivals pay for their poor fielding.
He went on to score 118 off as many balls including four sixes and 17 fours. On the verge of a Tea break, he was removed by Chris Woakes.
Mitchell Marsh has performed in the UK: George Bailey
Meanwhile, in April this year, Marsh recovered from an injury he sustained during the Big Bash League 2022-23. After his recovery, national selector, Bailey said that the Marsh has done well in the United Kingdom.
“It’s great to have Mitch back,” national selector George Bailey told reporters in April.
“He hasn’t really had the opportunity to be bowling in longer format cricket for some time.
“The operation he had just prior to Christmas has worked really well, we’re confident we can get him back and up and available as an all-rounder.
“Not having Greeny during part of the India series highlighted to us the value of having that as a back-up.
“Mitch has performed well in the UK in the past and we think he can add some real value.”
Talking about the game, the Aussies have been bowled out for 263. After the Marsh-Head partnership was broken, the likes of Wood and Woakes cleaned up the rest of the batting.

Mitch Marsh has as many Ashes hundreds as David Warner and Adam Gilchrist, and as many Ashes five-fors as Pat Cummins and Merv Hughes

Mitch Marsh said this after taking 5/46 in his last Test appearance at The Oval 2019. No matter where you stand on him as a player, you have to admire his spirit. #Ashes2023 pic.twitter.com/ooCYybRxQ2

Smashing hundred by Mitch Marsh exposes has made England’s bowling look weak, ragged, toothless. Advantage of winning toss more or less surrendered

Mitch Marsh, wow, walks in to bat with Australia 85/4 and smashes a hundred. He wouldn’t have played if Green had been fit. Our former coach sadly is missing although he was at Edgbaston and Lord’s. Came to see elder son Shaun Marsh debut in Pallekele and ended up as our coach.
