I developed a cocaine addiction after he retired because I started to crave a substitute for the adrenaline rush of competition, and it was finally overcome in 2009 following the death of my first wife Huma,” said Akram.

“I said alright I will go there (to the rehab center) for a month, but they kept me there for two and a half months against my will. Apparently, that is illegal in the world but not in Pakistan. That didn't help me. When I came out, a rebellion came into me. It's my money, I stayed in that horrible place against my will,” Akram revealed in The Grade Cricketer Podcast.

While summing up his remarks, Akram also talked about the differences in parenting in Western culture to that of Pakistani culture.

"When your child wakes up in the morning, you drop them off at school, pick them up, and change". However, as a father, Akram says, they never do that in his culture. "It is a wife's responsibility. The father's responsibility is to work and make money,” the 1992 World Champion pacer states further.

According to Akram, he was completely clueless about the parenting of his own kids. The Sultan of Swing also admitted that he had to take the help of the parents of his kids’ friends.
