20-20 World Cup 2022 is just a few days away to commence on the 16th of October later this week. The tournament will kick off with the first match between Sri Lanka and Namibia. A total of 12 teams will compete in the tournament for the coveted title. Defending champions Australia is considered one of the favorites to win the tournament as they are also the hosts of the eighth edition.
Apart from all that, former Caribbean legend Chris Gayle has also come up with thoughts and predictions for the finalists of this major international tournament. Gayle feels that the hosts Australia can make it to the final of the tournament and West Indies will be the second team to be there in the title clash for the World Cup.
I think there could be a final match between West Indies and Australia - Chris Gayle
“I think there could be a final match between West Indies and Australia. It will be very difficult for the West Indies team as the captain of the team is new and there is no Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, and Bravo in the team,” said Gayle to Dainik Jagran.
Later on, the 43-year-old stated that the Caribbean side could be a ‘dangerous opponent’ for the other teams participating in the tournament. And they might also lift the title if things fall in place with their strategies and tactics on the match day.
"Yes, it is definitely that the players who are included in the West Indies team are talented and can prove to be dangerous for any team. As everyone knows it is just a matter of adapting your strategy in the right way on match day. I hope the team plays well," he added later.
Notably, the Caribbean side is facing some problems in the national team for the last couple of months as the few renowned players will not be a part of the squad this time in the marquee event.
