‘Thala ke army top par aa gaye’ - Fans react as CSK defeat KKR by 49 runs in IPL 2023

On 23 April 2023, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) took on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the ongoing IPL. The match got played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. However, KKR came to this clash after a defeat against Delhi Capitals (DC). On the other hand, CSK defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their last game.

Speaking of the match, Nitish Rana won the toss and asked MS Dhoni and his men to bat first. KKR dropped Litton Das and Mandeep Singh from their last playing XI. David Wiese got his debut cap. For CSK, Ruturaj Giakwad and Devon Conway came out as the openers and started to bash KKR bowlers.

CSK defeated KKR by 49 runs in IPL 2023

They both scored 73 runs for the first wickets in 7.3 overs. Gaikwad scored 35 runs off 20 balls and Conway continued his dream form with the bat. The Kiwi opener scored 56 runs off 40 balls. After that, Ajinkya Rahane and Shivam Dube scored 85 runs for the third wicket. Dube scored 50 runs off 21 balls, including two fours and five sixes. Rahane showed his attacking game once again and remained not out on 71* runs off 29 balls, including seven fours and five sixes. Thus, CSK scored 235 runs for four wickets in 20 overs. For KKR, Kulwant Khejroliya took two wickets for 44 runs in three overs.

Then, for the chase, KKR batters had a poor start. Narayan Jagadeesan scored just one run and Narine scored a three-ball duck. Then, Rana scored 27 runs and Venkatesh Iyer scored 20 runs off 20 balls. They were all sort of trouble after losing four wickets for 70 runs in 8.2 overs. Then, Jason Roy played some delightful shots and scored 61 runs off 29 balls. Rinku Singh scored 53* runs off 33 balls. But, other batters came out with some contributions and they scored 186 runs for eight wickets in 20 overs. Thus, CSK won the match by 49 runs. KKR have now lost four consecutive matches this season.
