The 46th match of the Indian T20 league 2022 saw Chennai beat Hyderabad by 13 runs. It turned out to be a high-scoring contest as it was raining sixes. However, it was the defending champions who were clinical, and won their third game of this edition.
After Hyderabad won the toss and elected to bowl first, their bowlers were taken to the cleaners. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway showed no mercy on them. However, They started things slowly. The duo scored 40 runs in the first six overs.
However, little did Hyderabad's bowlers know what was in store for them. Gaikwad and Conway effortlessly played the big shots after the completion of the powerplay overs. Chennai's openers put on a 182-run partnership. Gaikwad in particular was magnificent.
Despite not being in the best of form in the ongoing edition, the youngster showed why the Chennai fans rate him so highly. He went on to score a brilliant 99, and was unlucky to miss out on a hundred. While his strike rate during his knock was 173.68, he struck six fours and six sixes. His dismissal during the 18th over was heartbreaking, to say the least.
Nevertheless, Conway batted till the end, and ensured that Chennai cross the 200-run mark. He scored an unbeaten 85 from just 55 balls. Thus, the yellow army scores 202-2 in the first innings. After which, Hyderabad's opener started positively during the start of the second innings.
However, the last ball of the powerplay saw Abhishek Sharma return to the pavilion. He scored 39 runs from 24 balls. Rahul Tripathi was quick to follow as he perished in the next ball.
After which Hyderabad's skipper Kane Williamson and Aiden Markram were looking dangerous before the Proteas batter tried to his Mitchell Santner for a third consecutive six, only to find the fielder. Williamson was then dismissed after scoring a 37-ball 47 in the 15th over.
Maheesh Theekshana was superb once again as he only gave 26 runs in his full quota of four overs. Nicholas Pooran tried his best to win the game for his side as he scored an unbeaten 64 from just 33 balls. His efforts went in vain as the orange army fell short of their target by 13 runs
